hen to Use Liners (The Benefits)
Saves Time and Mess: Liners act as an excellent container for food, protecting your basket and minimizing cleanup time.
Sticky and Sweet Foods: Ideal for proteins with marinades or rubs that contain honey, brown sugar, or syrupy ingredients that easily burn and stick.
Cheesy Dishes: Highly recommended for anything featuring melted cheese (like nachos, fries, or enchiladas) to prevent it from baking onto the metal.
Baking and One-Pot Meals: Great for containing baked items, rolls, casseroles, pasta bakes, cookies, or brownies, as they make lifting the food out very easy.
When NOT to Use Liners
Fatty or Greasy Foods: Avoid using liners for foods like , hamburgers, or chicken thighs where you intentionally want the fat and grease to drain away through the basket grates.
The Under-Basket Hack: If you still want an easy cleanup for greasy food, place the liner underneath the basket tray to catch the drippings instead of putting the food directly on it.
Ultra-Crispy or Breaded Foods: Skip the liner if you are air frying homemade breaded foods, as the paper tends to trap moisture underneath, which can make the bottom soggy.
High-Heat Searing: Do not use liners if you want to achieve a direct heat sear or char on food, such as when cooking steak.
Safety Rules & Common Issues
Fire Hazard: Parchment paper is lightweight and flammable. Never place a liner into the air fryer during the preheating phase with nothing on top of it. The internal fan will blow the paper up into the heating element and burn it.
Lightweight Food: If you place too little food on the liner, the edges can still lift up and fold over, blocking even heat distribution or hitting the burner.
The Magnet Hack: If your air fryer basket is magnetic, you can use specialized small food-safe magnets on the corners or sides of the liner to clip and lock it securely against the basket wall.
Does it Block Airflow? (The Experiment)
To test if the paper hinders cooking performance, two identical salmon fillets were cooked in two identical air fryers one with a parchment liner and one directly on the grate.
Both fillets were cooked at 380°F for 8 minutes.
The Result: Both salmon pieces achieved the exact same internal temperature (136°F) and showed great color, proving that thin parchment liners do not significantly impact airflow or cooking results.
